Why You Need to Integrate Your AMS with Salesforce

If you don’t have your AMS connected to your CRM then you are losing out on a huge amount of value.

Here are some reasons why this should be a focus for your agency/broker.

Track All Client Information in One Place

Your AMS is the true system of record. The AMS is the only system that knows the truth about policies and billing. Salesforce sits off to the side with a copy of the truth, mostly about people you haven’t sold to yet.

After an integration with the AMS, Salesforce holds the full customer picture: the account, the people, the policies, the renewal dates, the activity history, the claims, the documents. Your AMS still does what it’s good at, which is servicing and accounting.

But the place your team goes to understand a customer becomes Salesforce.

This is probably what your Salesforce looks like right now

A note on which AMS

We use Applied Epic as the example throughout but the same arguments hold for Vertafore AMS360 and other AMS such as HawkSoft, EZLynx etc. Same concept, different AMS.

Enter It Once

Right now someone on your team painstakingly types the same information into both your CRM and AMS.

That’s the first thing an integration automates. Enter it once in Salesforce and it flows into the AMS. Or the other way round, depending on which system owns that field. No more double entry.

Avoid duplicate entry between systems. Every duplicate keystroke you remove is time back for the person doing it. Studies on sales teams put manual data entry at a third of the working week. No one wants to do this work, so they don’t.

Data quality. When data is entered once, it’s more likely accurate. When it’s entered in two places, the two places get out of sync the moment somebody updates one and not the other. Then nobody trusts either system, and people start keeping their own spreadsheets. An integration makes sure both systems are always in sync and accurate.

Adoption

Producers don’t avoid Salesforce because they’re lazy. They avoid it because they want to get down and sell and the current CRM is full of stale prospect records and incomplete information that nobody updated and so no one trusts it. There is very little value for them. If you were in their shoes you wouldn’t want to use the CRM either.

Instead, give them an account record that shows live policies, real renewal dates and the service team’s actual activity, and the story changes. Now it’s the fastest place to find out what’s really going on.

Your Producers See the Whole Account

A producer opens an account in Salesforce and sees every policy the client holds, across every line, including the ones another team sold. They see the expiry dates. They see that someone in benefits had a meeting with the CFO last week. They see the open claim.

Two things follow from that.

Cross-sell becomes obvious

You can’t sell the gap if you can’t see the gap. Once every policy is on one record, the missing lines are visible to the person best placed to do something about it.

Teams stop colliding

Your P&C producer can see that the benefits team is already in there. No more two people from the same firm calling the same client in the same week with no idea about each other.

Marketing Gets Real Customer Data

Your digital marketing team is probably segmenting on job title and industry, because that’s all they’ve got.

With the AMS connected, they can segment on what people actually bought. Clients with a policy expiring in the next 90 days. Clients with commercial auto but no cyber. Clients who had a claim last year. Clients in an insurance line you’re trying to grow.

The emails going out are now much more targeted and relevant and more likely to achieve your outcomes.

Modern Reporting Tools

Reporting in most AMS is not great, ugly, hard to use and not flexible.

Salesforce reporting and dashboards are a different experience. Easy to configure, looks great and powerful. Even a non-technical user can create them.

You can even use other tools such as Tableau or data warehouses connected to Salesforce for heavy duty reporting.

Point AI at Your Policy Data

If you have all your policy data and information in Salesforce, then this also means you can have AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude communicate directly with Salesforce (MCP) and pull out insights on that policy information.

This is not something you can easily do with a legacy AMS because they don’t want you to. Salesforce is an open system by default with modern APIs to access all the information inside it.

Money, Money, Money

Fewer AMS licenses

You can minimize how many AMS licenses you buy. Do producers really need both Salesforce and an AMS license? Most likely not.

Once the data is in Salesforce, they can see it without an Epic license. They work in Salesforce all day, and the AMS data comes to them. This can be significant licensing savings per year and you don’t have to train the producers on how to use the AMS.

Commission calculations and splits

Applied Epic holds the raw commission numbers per policy.

What Epic doesn’t do well is all the nuanced rules specific to your firm. House versus producer share. Splits between two producers on a shared account. Overrides for a team lead. Referral percentages. Different rates for new business and renewal.

Pull the raw numbers into Salesforce and that logic can live where it’s easy to see and manipulate. From there you can push the result into your finance system and take the manual step out of the commission run entirely.

One Salesforce, Several AMS Platforms

If you’ve bought other agencies, you’ve inherited other systems.

This is not a rare problem. Nearly 700 US agency acquisitions were announced in 2025 alone, according to OPTIS Partners, spread across just 95 buyers. If you’re one of those buyers, you’re running whatever the seller ran, and you’re deciding whether to migrate them or live with it.

Salesforce can sit above more than one AMS at the same time. The acquired book flows into the same account and policy structure as everything else, so your reporting, your producers and your marketing see one business rather than three.

Where This Goes Next

Run the new business and renewal pipeline in Salesforce. Your AMS can’t really give you a pipeline in the way a sales leader wants. Move the renewals into Salesforce and the result is one pipeline, new business and renewals together.

Read documents automatically. We have a customer right now where prospects and clients fill in E&O questionnaires as PDFs. Those documents get read with AI, the detail is extracted, and it lands straight on the Salesforce opportunity for the submissions team. From there the same accurate detail goes across to the AMS. Nobody retypes a form.

That’s the level most agencies and brokers want to get to. But it only works because the account, the policies and the opportunity are already connected. You can’t automate a document into a record that doesn’t exist yet.

The Cost
